The Landowners Association of Texas is holding its 26th annual conference on Oct. 7-8, 2010 at the Humble Civic Center in Humble, Texas. Activities will commence at 7:00 a.m. on both days beginning with registration, program starts at 9:00 am. Prairie View A&M University’s Cooperative Extension Program is co-hosting the conference.
This years’ theme is “Sustainable Agriculture: Rebuilding and Sustaining Our Communities”. The goal of this conference is to enhance landowners’ knowledge of available opportunities and resources to improve their farming or ranching operations through the seminars, discussions, and one on one interaction with speakers and participants. Conference participants will also have the opportunity to interact with exhibitors from commercial, governmental and educational institutions to gain firsthand knowledge of programs that will benefit their operations
Dr. Joseph Leonard, Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights–United States Department of Agriculture, Washington, D.C., will open the general session of the conference. Dr. Leonard hails from Crockett, Texas. He will provide his knowledge of the intricacies associated with farming and attribute his experiences to help improve other operations.
The Landowners Association of Texas (L.A.T.) annually sponsors conferences, educational tours of successful farm and ranch operations, and awards and recognition banquets for long term maintenance and land acquisition and development. In addition to their efforts, the L.A.T. supports students with their agricultural projects by providing funds for the purchase of starter animals, feed, and the continuation of various workshops.
